Another ticket!

Okay I’m pretty mad right now because I just got a ticket. I’m cool with having a ticket, as long as it’s convincing. If I’m driving 100mph in a 65mph zone, then I’m well deserve the freaking ticket.

Here’s the story. Nah not really a story because it’s hella short, but anywho. I was in the school parking lot, heading to the main street to go home. My phone rang, I picked up. Talked for about 30 seconds (I dont enjoy talking on the phone much, some exceptions), while driving at less than 3mph. A cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket for cell phone violation. To be honest, I’ve heard of the no texting while driving rule, but not this one. I know it’s my fault for not “obeying the rule”. But look cop, there was tons of cars in front of me, and I was driving slower than an old lady walking with an old smelly dog, and you pulled me over for “distracted control of vehicle?”

Its so dumb. It’s legal to talk on the phone with a handsfree headset, or bluetooth. But you seriously expect me to pull out my bluetooth, turn it on, then call the person back since the process took so long and they hang up. And you think that it would be safer than just freaking answer the call from my phone for 30 secs? Geez.

Anyway, it was just my personal opinion, sorry for getting it off on you guys. But I’m gonna be walking around carrying my bluetooth now, just in case I need to talk while driving. And remember, the police officers ain’t kidding around with you. (unless you’re a cute girl that know how to apologize haha jk)

Midterm week

Wow I cant believe its midterm week already. I still have the feeling of being new in all my classes.

First of all I dont know why they call it midterm here, since a class often has about “2-3” midterms before the final. I’m used to call them freaking tests or exams. Because the word mid-term just simply means middle of the term right? And how can anything have more than 1 middle? haha just a random thought.

So I’m having 3 tests this week and 1 essay paper, all spread out from the beginning til the end of the week.

Having Management on Tuesday, Marketing on Wednesday, Finance on Thursday and Business Ethics paper on Friday. The hardest one is Finance. I’m okay with Finance for the most part, its the professor that gets me. Mr. Pawar. He’s a tough tough teacher. Taking his class pushes you to learn so much, but you won’t be getting a good grade out of it at all. I heard the first midterm for the last couple semesters ended up with the class average of 35% or sth like that. It’s gonna be hectic.

I’m all ready for the tests tho, hope they all turn out good.

Heavy Bag

My ‘Heavy-Bag’ mission is finally done.

I started searching on craiglist for a boxing heavy bag for about 2-3 weeks now. I dont box, and I never tried to box before. Well actually, my brother and I used to have 2 pairs of boxing gloves, so we would punch each other in the face with it, hope that counts as boxing haha.

A big ass heavy bag hanging in the corner of my living room is used as: working out device (secondary) and stress reliever (primary). I figure since I always punch in the wall or the door when I’m mad, or even when I’m excited, I should buy this bag so it would not hurt my knuckles as much, and I would not have to pay for a cracked up door, again. I saw this on guy on craiglist advertising for his heavy bag: “I’m selling this bag because I’m not angry anymore.”

Took me forever to take the stand apart from the seller’s house and put it back together in my apartment, I finally got it done tho. So just last night I set the whole set up, and have a few first punch on it, bare hands. It felt great, but hurt as hell. I’m gonna go buy a new pair of gloves later on today.

I took a picture of my new heavy bag set, but I dont have it right now. I’m going to upload the picture from my cell phone and post it up here ASAP.

Stats exam

I just took my midterm exam for IDS301 – Statistic class this morning. I stayed up til 3 studying for it. And dont even ask why I stayed up that late, I’m trying to cover my lazy butt. It was also my first midterm for this semester.

The grade was out quick, my friend called and asked what I got pretty much right after the test. He didnt score that high, actually his grade was not good at all. I got home at night and noticed that the average the class got was 81%. Turned out I got freaking 97%. Thats right! haha. I often have my test grades a bit higher than the mean of the class, but I’m definitely not used to having my grade sky high like this.

Hopefully the rest of the semester will turn out great for all my classes as well.

9 Hours Straight

NOT!

Alright yesterday was the end of Valentine’s weekend. While everyone’s out there having fun of their “significant other”, guess what I did.

Studied!

And not just simply studying, I did some serious nerdy studying. I spent 9 hours straight studying. Woke up at 10 in the morning, became a  nerd at 11, then finally got done at 8 at night. I didn’t even eat, well I had brunch before, but all I meant was that I didn’t even stop to do anything. My glass of water of empty but I was so focused that I didn’t want to go downstairs and get some more. When I was all done, my throat was all dried up, my bladder almost exploded haha.

It was my fault after all, it was actually just a small quiz, but since I have to study for the test anyway, and the test was obviously gonna be hard since I’m gonna have to remember all the damn formulas and how to apply them. I didn’t really spend time working on the subject before, that’s why I crushed all of them in my head at a time.

So yeah, that was my super sweet Valentine’s weekend.

Resume Update

Many people dont see the benefits of having a good resume. I know so many people that just make up a quick and easy resume whenever they’re asked for one and then they thought they could be done with it.

For me, I’ve been working on my resume for over two years. I said I’ve been working on it because I did not just make one up real quick at first, then not touch it, then finally edit it whenever I apply for another job or internship. It is because I make continuous changes in mine, for good. Put some new stuff in. Sometimes we have high qualities but we just thought it was simply common sense, so we dont point it out for other people to see.

I’m taking my IDS290 – Business Communication course for example. Many of us just think that we should just put our work experience, our computer skills and forgot about all the damn classes they take in school. So with that in mind, I put down “Good with oral and written communication skills,” just because I took that IDS class and did all the practice activities there.

I think to myself that updating my resume is pretty much updating my own image. One of my professors once said that a resume is like a snapshot of yourself, and you’re marketing yourself to the world.

Orange County

Huntington Beach, somehow the trees are all bent. They're very stable tho

I had to go to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) the other day to pick up a friend. So I thought to myself since I’m gonna spend more than 2hours driving up there anyway, why not spend a night in Orange County and spend time with my cousins. I didnt want to stay up there for a night at first, but then I realize that I’d need to leave San Diego at 5 or 6 in the morning to drive up, and how sleepy I would be so I decided to drive up the night before.

It was great! Its always exciting to go up there, and I go up there at least once or twice a month and still not bored of it yet. Orange County includes many cities, and every city has its own unique atmosphere. Huntington Beach with palm trees, and a great beach, of course. It only takes 2 minutes WALKING from my cousin’s house to the beach. We had a beach walk at night, then went for sushi. Then later that night me and my buddy went to Garden Grove, a place also known as “Little Saigon” haha. All Vietnamese there man, geez. You go outside and just start asking direction in Vietnamese and they will respond back haha. All stores were closed since it was over midnight, but it was still funny to see all the store with Vietnamese writing all over.

Textbooks

Used books are always a good solution

I just finished buying all my textbooks, I just bought 5 books for 6 classes, lucky me because it would have been way worse to spend more money on books for that last class. And guess how much I had to pay for those 5 books. $650! Spent the damn $650 for the freaking textbooks??? I never spent that much before, or even half that much. The main reason for my text to be this expensive is because I bought it at the actual bookstore, not online through Amazon anymore. On average I save about $100 each quarter buying books online.

This time I could not get away with it, I had to buy the whole package for almost every book, that includes the CD and all the access code required by the professors to log in online and do the assignments. Also buying cheap txt online also means buying used books. And pretty much all my classes come out with new textbooks this semester. The same with my 2 business classes last semester as well. I dont know if this is the way business professors and business book publishers do their job, new textbooks come almost every semester so far for me.

But I’m sure the books will be worth reading. They’d better be. Nah I’m playing, they look kinda interesting. Everything has its own price right, and it’ll have its own value as well.

My recommendation: Get yours early!
